Streamlining Coastal Conservation in Newport, RI
What if there was one place to find every local event, clean-up, and conservation initiative along the Rhode Island coast? That’s the question that inspired Communi-SEA — a collaborative platform designed to connect the Newport community with coastal conservation opportunities.
Created as part of Salve Regina University’s Business Planning Capstone, Communi-SEA is a mission-driven initiative that brings together nonprofits, residents, and visitors in pursuit of a cleaner, more sustainable shoreline.
Pitch-Winning Plan
Our team was one of five selected to compete in Salve’s Seahawk Tank Pitch Competition, where we presented our plan to local leaders and entrepreneurs at Innovate Newport. We took home first place, earning recognition for our community-focused strategy and comprehensive execution.
Extending the Vision: App Design
To bring the concept to life beyond the pitch, I designed a prototype mobile app for Communi-SEA as part of my exploration into UI/UX design.
The app provides:
A community newsfeed
A shared calendar of events
Member access and messaging
Eco-friendly merch storefront
Tools for partner organizations to share updates
The design emphasizes accessibility, usability, and local identity, staying true to the mission of connecting people to the cause.
